INTRAORAL CAMERA VS IMPRESSIONS

Happy New Year Everyone. For those of you who hate taking impressions when having crowns done, there are several intraoral cameras such as one by Cerec, which hopefully will allow dentists to routinely just take a series of photos instead of those gummy impressions in order to fabricate crowns. There are already used today, but hopefully within a few years they will be used by more dentists.

PIERCINGS AND DENTAL ISSUES

Piercings are becoming very common all over the body, and especially the oral cavity. While they may be appealing, they can cause a variety of dental problems. People very often fracture teeth or they can cause your gums to recede, which leads to periodontal disease and eventual tooth loss.

SMOKING AND GUM DISEASE

Some people don't realize the harmful effects that smoking can have on your gums. We see 30yo patients who smoke, with more gum disease and dental bone loss than patients in their 70s who do not. And the end result of gum disease is tooth loss, so if you needed one more reason to quit smoking, losing your teeth should be a motivating one.
